Be You @ BU Fall 2022 Magazine

Hey Gaiters! My name is Ben George and I’m from Cambridge Ontario. One word to describe my fi rst semester would be exhilarating .

I began a new chapter of my life in a new prov- ince on my own and enjoyed everything about my fi rst term! Choosing Bishop’s University was one of the best decisions I’ve made because of the people I’ve met and the sense of community o ff ered here at Bishop’s. Everybody is so welcoming and it’s such a nice environment to be in. Orientation week was an amazing week of events that I was so thankful to be a part of during these tough times with Covid-19. It gave me the opportunity to connect with many people and I made tons of friends! One of the reasons why I chose to attend Bishop’s was because of the Sports Studies program. I am looking into becoming an NHL general manager one day, so taking this major interests me a lot. My on-campus experience was great! The Gait opened which is a dance fl oor + student bar where we had a lot of themed nights which were super fun. It was an easy change moving in as it only took a couple days to settle in. I also chose Bishop’s because of it being a small-er

First Year school. Getting to know the place and people becomes so much easier. One bonus to attending Bishop’s University is the small class sizes. The professors know your name and genuinely want to get to know you. That’s special because it feels like they really want us to succeed and it makes us feel like a person instead of a number (which doesn’t tend to be the case in bigger schools). Our RAs (Residence Assistants) are always willing to help and were awesome when moving us in on opening weekend.

Reflections Author: Ben George Program: Bachelor of Arts – Sports Studies Seeing the campus for the fi rst time was un - real. It’s such a beautiful place with so many facilities that are right next to your room, it makes me feel spoiled. I’ve learned so much after just one semester at Bishop’s. You real- ly grow into an adult once you are on your own and this change has worked out so well Ben, Cambridge, Ontario

for me. I was so surprised at how easy the change really was, there were even some nights during the fi rst week where I was walking home thinking, wow this is exactly where I want to be. You have so much fun that time just goes by too quickly and next thing you know it’s already Christmas break. My advice for future Bishop’s students is to really step out of your comfort zone during orientation week. Participating in it will really help create great long lasting friendships, which was ultimately one of the best experiences for me so far.
