BUtee Advice

Greetings all of you BUties! Welcome to your next great adventure, attending university at Bishop’s! My name is Annabelle, and I am a recent graduate of B.U. and have spent my time here laughing, learning, and growing. There are few words that can express how lucky the University is to have you, and for you to have THIS university. This campus is an amazing place, where you fall into things without really plan ning for them; honestly these spontaneous opportunities often lead to your best experiences. Which is one of the key things I hope for you all to remember, make time for spontaneity. When I arrived at B.U. I would say that my strongest life skill was time management. I was organized, I had to-do lists, and I felt confident to tackle each day with my game plan in place. However, this didn’t leave a lot of room for spontaneous movement and there are so many ways at B.U. to fall in and have fun. People might be heading to a concert, going night skiing, heading over to the plex to catch the hockey game, or into the town for karaoke. You just never know, and the best part is they always want you to join in with them. So leave room in your schedule for these opportunities: I promise they are worth it. Get out there and find stuff that sparks your curiosity. Top tip: stay behind in class and chat with your professors. We have amazing faculty here and they are always game to have a great conversation. Be the person who tries, you never know what may come of it. Follow your ideas with actions. Join new-found friends at activities that you know nothing about. Take a class unrelated to your program. Join as many clubs as you like. The goal is to fill your cup with fun until it is overflowing. Your first week of school is a giant leap of faith but trust in the fact that you are meant to be here. Your choices led you to Bishop’s and in no time you’ll find your place in this home. Best of luck new Gaiters!
