Hi Everyone! My name is Victoria Perak and I am a second year here at Bishop’s University! I am currently working towards an Honours in Politics, Major in International Studies and a Minor in French. I am originally from Kitchener, Ontario and I have loved the opportunity to live in Quebec. ,Q ̬UVW \HDU P\ IULHQGV DQG , ERXJKW WLFNHWV IRU WKH %LVKRSʌV University Fashion Show not really knowing what to expect. (YHU\RQH WROG XV KRZ DPD]LQJ WKH VKRZ ZDV DQG LW GH̬QLWHO\ lived up to all of the hype! This past year I had the pleasure of serving as a Fundraising Director for the 2021 Bishop’s University Charity Fashion Show. It has been a great year with an even better team. With a committee of over 30 people, I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people. In addition to the committee, the fashion show has over 100 BU students involved as models, dancers, volunteers, technical teams, and audience participants. This is an amazing way to get involved and have lots of fun while also giving back to our community. Unfortunately, this year’s Fashion Show could not be carried out as planned due to COVID restrictions; however, we were still able to have some awesome events and fundraisers. Trivia Night at the Gait and the classic Rubber Ducky golf tournament were both amazing events that many BU students participated in. The Fashion Show also sets a focus on using sustainable brands for the fashion show. Being eco-friendly has con- tinued to be a core part of the organization. Each year the fashion show raises over $15,000 for local charities. Thankfully, this year we were still able to raise money and Grace Village was the chosen charity, a local residence that cares for seniors. Seniors in nursing homes are one of the groups hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fashion show fundraised money for the Grace Village Care Foundation ZKLFK DLGV VHQLRUV ZKR DUH QRW DEOH WR D̫RUG WKH IXOO FRVW RI their care. Giving back to our community is what Bishop’s is all about and I am extremely thankful that we were able to still donate to this fund and support seniors in our community. Overall, the Fashion Show is an amazing extra-curricular activity and something that I really enjoyed being part of this year and I will definitely be involved again next year! Promoting core values of inclusivity, positivity and sustain- ability, the fashion show is a great experience that I would recommend to every BU student – and even if you are not sure you want to be on stage or behind the scenes, I still encourage you to dress up and attend the event to support your fellow Gaiters and our local community.
