Many students are coming to Bishop’s to complete a bachelor’s degree with the intention to continue their studies in medicine and/or other health related disciplines at another institution. The Pre-Medicine double major allows students to complete the nec essary prerequisites to apply to medical schools while at the same time pursuing a liberal arts edu cation. The required and optional courses of this program correspond to the entrance requirements of many Canadian and American medical schools, as well as address the requirements of most related professional schools (such as dentistry or physio therapy). To enter the Pre-Medicine major, a student must register in a separate primary major as well. A student can select their primary major from any dis cipline offered at Bishop’s University.

Mathematics is the language of the sciences, a lan guage which allows scientists to quantify, model, understand and predict behaviour in an enormously diverse range of phenomena of interest. Simultane ously, Mathematics is often regarded as an art, as it is the creative study of patterns and of problem solving. Mathematics covers a wide range of disci plines including algebra, analysis, combinatorics and discrete mathematics, and differential equations.

Physics discovers and applies the fundamental laws that govern nature on many different scales: from the smallest elementary particles, to plane tary motion and star formation, to galaxies all the way up to the universe itself (cosmology). This in volves working with beautiful physical concepts as well as elegant and powerful mathematical and computational tools. Disciplines include astrophys ics, gravitational physics, quantum field theory & particle physics and experimental physics (e.g. op tical spectroscopy and plasma physics).
